SchoolSupplies4KIDS

  • Dear Madison County Community,

Kids returning to school is probably not at the top of your list right now in the middle of summer, but here at CRISP (Community Resources in Service to People) we are already counting inventory, collecting school needs lists, and reaching out to community members for supplies. Please help out kids with their school supplies this year by donating either cash or supplies towards the SchoolSupplies4KIDS Madison County Community Project. A list of current needs is included with this email.

The average cost of school supplies per child topped $100 in 2014, and “parents will spend [more than] $488 for clothing, accessories, school supplies, computers and other electronics for their children” on average (Deloitte Back to School Survey 2016, and TODAY 2014). Our goal as a 100% local nonprofit is to help strengthen families. Research shows that helping families with concrete needs in times of stress helps make families and children more resilient (a #1 strategy for reducing child abuse). Because of this, one of our main programs is to support children in learning by providing a basic school-supply filled back pack as well as a Winter Wear program.

    How to donate:

Commit to donating cash to one or more line items: We have a relationship with another nonprofit where we can order supplies in bulk for low cost and free shipping, so if you prefer not to purchase supplies yourself feel free to pick a line item and just email or call us to commit to that item(s) byJuly 10th.  A July 10th verbal commitment helps us know what we will need for our bulk order.

Sponsor a child or children for $35 – please commit by July 10th by email or telephone call.

Donate physical supplies: Our volunteers and staff will be packing school bags the first and second weeks of August. Because of this, we need to know our bulk order needs list by mid-July. So if you are committing to bring in physical items, please let us know by July 10th as it helps us with knowing our outstanding needs.

    Three Deadlines:
    1. July 10th – verbal commitments for line item cash AND physical donations requested by email to crisp@familyresourcelink.org or by calling 515.462.9400
    2. After making a verbal/email commitment for physical donation by July 10th, please deliver those physical donations to the CRISP office no later than July 27th.
    3. Mail cash donations to CRISP at 110 W. Washington, Winterset, IA 50273 by August 31st to help cover our costs of the program.

THANK YOU for helping Madison County KIDS SUCCEED!

    Sincerely,
