WCSD 1:1 Program
Winterset Schools offers students with 1:1 computers grades 1-12, serving more than 1700+ students. Currently, in the high school we have Acer 14" Chromebooks, and in the Junior High, Middle School and Elementary we are using 11" Chromebooks. Each 7th - 12th grade student has the option of taking their computer home each night. Starting June 2019 students in grades 9-11 will have the option of taking thier Chromebook home over the summer. Grades 2nd - 6th will leave the computers at school and charge in their homeroom carts.
WCSD is a Google school, which means each student is provided with a free Gmail account under the @winterset.k12.ia.us domain name. With this account, students gain access to Google Drive which offers unlimited free cloud storage and access to all Google's online word processors. This allows the students to work on assignments together as a team virtually anywhere they have a WiFi connection, they can also work on assignments offline as well.

Summer Chromebook Program
Winterset Community School District encourages all 9th through 11th-grade students to keep their school-issued Chromebook over the summer! The Winterset Summer Chromebook Program will bring us closer to fulfilling the vision of “anytime, anywhere” learning. By keeping the Chromebook all year will drastically reduce the amount of instructional time lost collecting and distribution each spring and fall.
Students are encouraged to use their devices to pursue academic learning, hobbies, and other passions as long as those pursuits would be appropriate on a school-issued device. Examples include coding, reading, writing, audio-visual production, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) activities. Students should also consider using summer months to research colleges and apply for scholarships.
Even if a student does not intend to use the device over the summer, we ask families to consider storing the device at home. Doing so guarantees that the student will have access to their Chromebook on the very first day and last days of school and avoids potential delays during registration and schedule pick-up. Chromebooks do not require regular maintenance over the summer and can be safely stored on a shelf with the charger.
Web/email Filter: All Chromebooks will continue to be filtered according to local, state, and federal policies and will remain the property of Winterset Schools. The Technology Department will continue to monitor web searches and emails and take appropriate action when needed. WCSD has the right to disable any device at any time we feel the AUP has been violated.
Damages: Students may drop off any computer at the Administration Building if any damages happen over summer. The Technology Department will access the damages, fix the device, and apply all charges to the students' Infinite Campus account. The Chromebook will be available for pickup after all fees have been paid. Email email@example.com with any questions.
Lost/Stolen: A lost or stolen device should be reported immediately to the Police and the police report brought to the District Administration Office during summer hours. An email should also be made to Matt Pudenz, Technology Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Moving: Families who plan on moving/transferring over the summer can drop off device(s) at the Administration Building during summer hours.
No action is necessary to participate in the Summer Chromebook program. Students will simply keep their current device, charger, and case for the summer and return with them in the fall. Students laptop numbers should be checked by accessing the shared document that will be sent by email to the students before school is out.
Students and families who choose not to keep their device over the summer may email email@example.com before May 30th. We will collect your students' laptop before they leave for the summer.
