Joshua Heyer Named Junior High Principal

Joshua Heyer Named Principal of Winterset Junior High School for the 2020-21 School Year.

Joshua Heyer will become the new principal for Winterset Junior High School beginning July 1, 2020. Mr. Heyer is currently a 5-8th Grade Principal at Woodside Middle School in Saydel. He previously taught in Waukee and Johnston. Joshua has been an educator for 20 years. During his teaching career, Mr. Heyer taught multiple Industrial Technology and Project Lead The Way courses at the high school level. He has led adult learners while working as an instructional coach in the Saydel District and as an adjunct professor at the University of Northern Iowa. He has also coached several sports at various levels. “ I am honored to have the opportunity to join the Winterset School District and serve this great community. I am delighted to work in partnership with all stakeholders to ensure all students reach their fullest potential while creating lasting memories. Go Huskies! ”

Joshua has demonstrated throughout his career that he is a life-long learner who is focused on ensuring all kids receive the support they need to be successful.” said Justin Gross who will assume responsibilities as Superintendent on July 1st. Originally from Jesup, IA, Joshua has been married to his wife Denna for 17 years. They have three children: Chandler, Carson, and Ella. Joshua holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Northern Iowa and a Master of Education Degree from Drake University. He is currently taking coursework at Drake University for his Specialist Degree and Superintendent licensure. When not at work, Joshua enjoys spending time with family, participating in anything sports, and enjoying the outdoors.
