Officer Garrison, our SRO, read to the kindergarten class, “I’m Not Scared,I’m Prepared”, as a way to educate them for our intruder drills.

This week the kindergarten students have been learning about fire safety. A couple local firefighters brought their firetruck and did a presentation, teaching the kids about stop, drop, and roll, what to do if they see a fire and what it is like to be a firefighter. The kids were so excited and loved to hear the sirens as they drove away.

A reminder that Picture Retake day is October 17. Due to Jostens' green screen technology, students should refrain from wearing green clothing. To order pictures, visit https://shop.jostenspix.com/login and use event code FE224824.

🌟 It’s Late Start Wednesday! Our amazing teachers and staff are diving into professional development this morning. Today, two of our 3rd grade teachers shared how they've successfully integrated Amira into their daily reading routines. 📚 We also explored the impact of technology on the developing brain, inspired by "The Anxious Generation." And it’s #WintersetWednesday! Our staff rocked their jeans and red items today. Can you guess why we're wearing red? 🔥

It's Book Fair Time! 📚 The elementary school will be hosting its book fair in the library on Thursday, October 17 AND Thursday, October 24 from 3:30 pm - 7:30 pm (during conferences). Visit www.scholastic.com/fair and search Winterset Elementary to preview books or shop the online catalog (online shopping is available October 16 - October 29). All purchases benefit the school! Congratulations, WES!! All of your hard work with Beanstack is paying off! We have reached Trailblazer status, with 87% of our students actively logging their reading minutes for a total of 47,246 minutes so far this year! Keep up the fantastic work!

Last week, first-grade students explored the idea that a story can have multiple settings. They read "Nana in the City" and then worked together to draw and write about three different settings in the story.

🌟 This month's CKH theme is Self-Direct! 🎉 Let’s learn how to set our own goals and make choices for ourselves.

We are loving Beanstack here at the elementary! In the last four weeks, we have reached the Reading Culture Pathfinder level, meaning at least 50% of our students have logged their reading minutes in Beanstack. That's added up to over 21,000 minutes of reading! We're excited to keep up the good work! Parents, remember you can find instructions on how to download the Beanstack app on your home devices in the backpack!

Today's homecoming theme brought some summer ☀️ vibes to the elementary with everyone embracing the spirit of "Last Summer"! Staff and students rocked their beach attire ⛱️ , making for a fun day (Despite a few sprinkles). 🌧️

🌟 Huge thanks to our amazing PTO! 🌟 Your generous donation to our prize closet means teachers can motivate students with exciting prizes without dipping into personal funds. 💖 Thank you for your commitment & making a difference! 🎉

🎉🏆 Wednesday's homecoming theme was all about "Winner Takes All"! Students and staff rocked their favorite team jerseys, showing off their Husky spirit! 🙌💛
