Our Winter Reading Challenge is going full steam ahead! As a building, we have reached and exceeded our goal of 100,000 minutes read since the beginning of the competition! Students are working hard to earn their individual prizes as well--scratch and sniff bookmarks at the halfway point, and a nifty Reading Machine button when the challenge is complete. Competition for the movie prize is intense--second grade holds a razor-thin lead over third grade, with each group at just over 37,000 minutes read. Winterset Elementary will dismiss 2 hours early at 1:10 PM on Friday, January 17th, as it marks the end of Term 2. Buses will run as usual with adjusted times. Please notify the office of any changes to your child’s dismissal plan.

Wednesday morning we had the pleasure of hosting Tasha Booth from The Den! She shared valuable insights on wellness, including the importance of nutrition, protein intake, and strength training. 💪
We also got to enjoy some delicious Tea Bombs and Protein Bites—fuel for both body and mind! 🫖🍪
Healthy teachers lead to healthier, happier classrooms, and that’s a win for our students, too. 💙 A big thank you to Tasha for helping us prioritize wellness and set the tone for a strong 2025!
Our Beanstack Be a Reading Machine challenge is off and running! Thanks to great logging efforts over break, we are well on the way to reaching our school goal of 100,000 minutes read during the challenge. Second grade is currently in the lead for the grade-wide movie prize with over 20,000 minutes read. And individually, we have 113 students who have read 150 minutes or more since the challenge began! 3rd Grade "Holidays Around the World" Event
The 3rd grade students organized a special event called "Holidays Around the World." During this event, families visited to view the handmade items that students created to "sell" for just 25 cents each. The students researched various countries and learned about their unique holiday celebrations.
Thanks to the support of families and the community, the 3rd graders raised over $550.00 in donations! This money will be donated to Azria Health to fund an activity at a later date.

And we're off! Our Beanstack Winter Reading Challenge has officially begun, and we are off to a great start. Just a reminder to keep your student logging their reading over break for a chance to win individual and building-wide prizes, as well as an awesome grade-level prize--a trip to the Iowa Theater to watch The Wild Robot! Minutes can be logged digitally (instructions for downloading the Beanstack app are in the backpack) or on the paper log students can get in the library. Happy reading and happy holidays!
