What an incredible day for Winterset Junior High! 🎉
Today, we took our entire student body and staff to Wildwood Hills Horse Ranch for a day dedicated to building relationships, creating connections, and reinforcing what it means to be the Best Junior High in Iowa.
Our students were amazing, tackling a variety of hands-on activities including High Ropes, Archery, Lake Activities, Horseback Riding, and Field Sports. They also participated in informational sessions to learn more about our school community and what we stand for.
A huge shoutout to everyone who made this day possible!
The Women's Giving Circle of Madison County for their generous support of this initiative.
Wildwood Hills Ranch for being the perfect host.
And a special thank you to our incredible teachers, staff, and board members for their hard work and dedication.

What a great first day at Winterset Junior High! We were so excited to give all our students a first-class welcome and start the new school year off right.

WJH Family Engagement Night was a BLAST! 🚀 What an incredible evening! Thank you to all the families, students, teachers, and community members who came out to the WCSD 2025-26 Family Engagement Night. It was so great to see so many of you enjoying the fun. ❤️

Open House (4:00-5:45pm): Get a head start on the school year! Students can grab their schedules in the Junior High Commons, find their lockers, and meet their incredible teachers. 🏫
Hot Dog Dinner (5:00-7:00pm): We've got dinner covered! Stop by the football field concession stands for a delicious hot dog dinner. 🌭
Color Run (Starts at 7:00pm): Ready, set, GO! Get ready to get messy and have a blast with our epic Color Run! The race begins just south of the Competition Gym. 🎨🏃♀️
We can't wait to see you there for a night of food, friends, and fun!

The school board is a non-partisan group of community members elected to serve Winterset Community School District. With the intention of filling this vacancy through appointment, anyone wanting to be considered should submit a written statement to the Board Secretary by August 8, 2025 and include why they are interested in serving on the board and how their current experience will be helpful to board work. This appointment will serve until the next regularly scheduled election (November 4, 2025).
Notice of intent to appoint will be published in The Madisonian. Eligible electors have the right to file a petition requiring a special election to be held. Petitions must be received by the Board Secretary within 14 days of notice publication.

Days 3 and 4 of our Washington, DC trip were packed with unforgettable experiences for our students! 🇺🇸 We explored the historic Gettysburg National Military Park with an engaging battlefield tour, enjoyed a peaceful Tidal Basin walk, and visited the powerful Martin Luther King Jr. and Thomas Jefferson memorials. We also discovered the charm of Old Town Alexandria, toured the fascinating Army Museum, and took in stunning views of the Potomac River from George Washington’s backyard at his Mount Vernon estate.
Day 2 of our Washington, DC adventure was truly unforgettable! 🇺🇸 Our students honored history with a visit to Arlington National Cemetery and witnessed the solemn Changing of the Guard. We explored the powerful Marine Corps Memorial (Iwo Jima) and toured the deeply moving Holocaust Museum. The day continued with a visit to the White House, followed by reflection at the Vietnam and Korean War Memorials. We wrapped up the evening surrounded by the inspiring beauty of the Lincoln Memorial and Reflecting Pool.

🚀 Today marks the start of an amazing adventure for our incoming 9th graders from Winterset Community School District! 🇺🇸 We kicked off our trip to Washington, DC with an inspiring tour of the US Capitol, learned about the Library of Congress and Supreme Court, and paid tribute at the WWII Memorial and Washington Monument.
Seeing these iconic landmarks up close and learning about our country’s history has been nothing short of incredible. Stay tuned for more highlights from this unforgettable journey! ✨

🎉 What an amazing way to wrap up the 2024-25 school year at Winterset Junior High! 🎉
On Friday, May 30th, our 8th graders enjoyed a special day starting with a trip to the Iowa Theater to watch The Outsiders 🎬, followed by fun and games at City Park 🌳. Meanwhile, our 7th graders spent the morning engaged in passion activities that sparked creativity and connection before joining their peers at the park for some well-deserved playtime. We will miss all of our student! Enjoy summer break!
