🎤✨ Foundations of Public Speaking Assembly ✨🎤 Today, Winterset Junior High students participated in an inspiring Foundations of Public Speaking assembly, focusing on the key elements of effective communication. Students and staff learned the importance of: ✔️ Being heard and understood ✔️ Expressing themselves with clarity ✔️ Standing tall with confidence The presenter also emphasized bringing energy, enthusiasm, and earnestness to every speaking opportunity. This assembly is the first in a two-part Public Speaking Workshop designed to help our students grow as effective communicators. These skills are critical as we prepare for our Authentic Learning Showcase on March 4th, where students will present their projects publicly. 🌟 Shoutout to Mr. Bradley's 7th Grade Math students for their incredible work in creating a meal plan database! 🌟 Students tackled the compelling question: How can we support busy families with meal plans within a specific budget? Through a rich Project Based Learning experience, they engaged in a Question Formulation exercise, sustained inquiry, feedback and revision, and the creation of a public product—a database that community members can reference for meal prep ideas tailored to different budgets. We are so proud of their hard work, creativity, and collaboration. Be on the lookout for the database soon! 👏🍽️

🎉 Celebrating Incredible Learning at Winterset Junior High! 🎉 A huge shoutout to Mrs. Kerr and her Design and Modeling students for facilitating a truly remarkable PBL experience! 🌟 Students designed and created therapeutic toys, combining creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration to make a meaningful impact. 💡 This was a tremendous experience for everyone involved, showcasing the amazing talent and dedication of both our students and staff. Well done, Mrs. Kerr and students—we are so proud of your hard work and innovation! 👏👏

🌟 Celebrating 7th Grade Excellence! 🌟 Our 7th-grade students recently wrapped up an incredible interdisciplinary project that combined Literacy and Social Studies: The Utopia Project. Working in teams, students designed their own utopias, crafting innovative solutions for laws, housing, education, careers, and healthcare initiatives. They wrote compelling informational essays, built physical models, and prepared persuasive speeches to present their ideas to a panel of judges. 💡 What stood out: **Exceptional collaboration and teamwork **Demonstration of effective communication through essays and speeches **Being self-starter driven by taking ownership of their work and ideas Students earned individual rewards, and the top three teams were recognized for their outstanding efforts! This project showcased the creativity, critical thinking, and dedication of our 7th graders.

🎄✨ Happy Holidays from Winterset Junior High! ✨🎄 As we close out the first half of the year, we want to wish all our students, families, and staff a joyful and restful holiday break. From learning and growing together to celebrating our accomplishments, the first half of the year has been unforgettable, thanks to each of you! To add to the holiday cheer, check out some fun pictures from our December 20th celebration! Our day was filled with pancakes, ornament decorating, holiday activities at Graham's Cafe, and tons of fun at Sk8n Station Roller Skating Rink. It was truly a magical way to close out 2024. 📡🎶 Math Meets Music in Mrs. Obert's Class! 🎶📡 This week, Mrs. Obert’s 8th-grade math students are tuning in to something extraordinary! As part of an innovative project, students are creating their very own radio stations. 🎛️📻 This engaging project challenges students to apply a variety of math concepts, including data analysis, proportions, and even coordinate geometry. Along the way, they’re flexing their Profile of a Graduate skills—like Effective Communication, Critical Thinking, and Collaboration. And let’s not forget about the timeless skill of reading a map—an essential part of determining their station's "broadcast reach." 🗺️✨ From brainstorming playlists to solving complex math problems, these students are showing how real-world learning can be exciting and meaningful.
