Where should the Easter Bunny sleep? That was the big question for Mrs. Smith’s kindergarteners! Using jelly beans and toothpicks, these creative little architects built 3D shapes to design the perfect bunny hideaway — all while mastering their geometry skills.

Camp Innovation In Control™ Children put their navigation skills to the test on the ultimate road trip as they study a travel map and learn about the use of artificial intelligence in everyday items, such as the GPS. When their journey takes an unexpected detour, they use creative problem-solving and build persistence by inventing their way out of numerous bumps in the road. Last week, several Winterset teachers traveled to Des Moines to attend a screening of the powerful new documentary Counted Out. The film sheds light on the profound influence math has in today’s world—and the lasting impact educators have on their students' futures.
One story that especially resonated with the group featured a single mother who avoided math for years after a teacher once told her she was "acting like a baby" for counting on her fingers. That single moment shaped her path, capping her income at $40,000 and keeping her from pursuing higher-paying opportunities that required math skills. But her story took a turn when she connected with a college professor who took the time to understand how she learned. With encouragement and the right support, she gained the confidence to succeed in math, eventually earning her master’s degree which led her to a salary of over $100,000.
Stories like these are powerful reminders that the influence of a teacher begins early—and can last a lifetime. Winterset teachers are always seeking ways to grow and better support their students. Proud to be a Husky! 🐾
